The effect of illumination on the working efficiency

Abstract
Condition of illumination in 47 work-shops which are located at Youngdung-po area was evaluated and 9 of those were chosen for supplement of illumination to standard lux level.
The effect of better illumination was evaluated by comparing the former productivity and the number of faulty products with those 20 days after the supplement of illumination.
By matching the data with that of Part 1, we obtained following results showing the change of working efficiency with better illumination.
1) The present illumination in the work-shop subjected to this study is as follows:
a) all of the illumination at super-precision work-shops are less than standard lux level of 1000 lux.
b) At precision and ordinary work-shop. 75£¥ of the subject show less than standard level of 500 lux and 200 lux, respectively.
c) At coarse work-shop, 48£¥ of the subjects are less than standard level of 100 lux.
2) In type-setting work, after illumination is imporved from 90-100 lux to 150-200 lux, the percentage of mistake of type-setting in wrong position, mistake of letter, upside-down position, and working time decrease about 23.62£¥, 25.40£¥, 14.84£¥ and 10.95£¥ respectively both of Korean letters and Chinese characters. On the other hand, the efficiency of type-setting increases 12.32£¥
In type-setting of alphabet letters, similar tendency is also found in each item.
3) At sewing work-shop, rate of increase in productivity is 6.45£¥ and reduction in the rate of producing faulty products is 11.5£¥ after better illumination is installed from 100-140 lux to 200-300 lux.
4) After illumination is imporved from 50-60 lux to 200 lux in work-shops of artificial-flowerassembling, the reduction in the rate of faulty products is 27.29£¥.
5) The similar results are obtained in work-shop of packaging, showing the increase in the rate of productivity 3.56£¥, and reduction in the rate of faulty products 17.65£¥.
